Week1. Why Titanic hit the iceberg?

In 1912, April, Titanic hit an iceberg and within 2 hours and half it sank. Titanic was a huge ship which took 3000 men to work on its construction for over 2 years. The amount spent on it was $7.5 million and was built by White Star Line Company. There are different story over the reasons why Titanic hit the iceberg. One story has been told that the iceberg couldn't be seen in that point of time. It’s been said that the moon was not out during the night and water was turned to black and so still. So no breakers around the iceberg were clear as a clue to show there was something around. As a result of continues melting of the ice, the iceberg became a crystal clear one which was reflecting the darkness of water and the sky. So differentiating the iceberg was not easy.

There are other stories such as the captain’s fault over ignoring six previous warnings over other icebergs. And …

the strongest story has been told by the granddaughter of the second officer in the Titanic who has been saved by chance. This story which has been untold for years says that the real reason was a misunderstanding of the communication system. The man at the wheel was able to understand rudder orders not tiller orders. When the iceberg was spotted by the first officer the 'hard a-starboard' order was released. But the man at the wheel confused and turned the wheel the wrong way into the course of the iceberg. After two minutes the mistake was corrected but too late already.
